Sharjah exports to the world?

Reports are out that software developed by Sharjah airport Authority (SAA) may be exported to both Europe and the USA for airport efficiency. The software applications have been developed on and for Informix product and is presently used in Sharjah for the airport ticketing system.

The applications developed by the airport information services section are a total airport handling application including flight information, flight operations systems, financial accounting systems, purchase and stock system and also a cargo system. Alongside this are separate modules for handling imports and exports.
IT manager at the airport - which presently has more than 3,000 employees and is used by over 160 airlines - Dr. S. Sridhar, said: "We originally decided to develop in-house applications because we could not find any single package which could comprehensively handle our entire operation because of the dedicated nature of airport handling."

Also, "Informix in the UK were very impressed with the proposal that we submitted and it has since gone to the US. In the near future SAA may well be an Informix partner, selling applications to other airports around the globe," commented Pratap Chudasama, MD of Informix distributor, Infodata. "That would be a unique achievement for SAA."
