The Sharjah International Airport is set to become the first international airport in the Gulf to introduce the World Wide Web Internet service. At its worldwide web address shj-apt.com, the airport will soon provide interactive services to its clients, passengers, cargo agents and others. Ghanem Al Hajri, Director General of Sharjah Airport Authority, said yesterday that the introduction of the service was another step towards the airport’s aim of introducing modern technology in all its services.
The Airport Authority also plans to put up stations at different locations in the airport like the cafeterias and the lounges to enable passengers passing through the airport to use the

Internet and the e-mail facility.
The web site, Al Hajri said, would provide services such as updated flight schedules, destinations, airlines operating through the airport, types of cargo, rates and the like. Eventually, passengers, if linked to airlines, could make direct bookings on the Internet, Al Hajri said, adding that the site would also contain information on customs and regulations in the UAE. Further, information on hotels, car rental services and cultural programmes would also be included in the site.
Dr.S. Sridhar, director, information technology, management information services at the airport, pointed out that confidential information would be accessible to authorised clients alone through a security coding, while general information would be available to all Internet users.
